You will need to complete two steps to obtain a statement of competency for a Queensland RMDL (recreational marine drivers licence) and PWC (personal water craft). First your theory component. Licence to Boat offers the first and best, Queensland Boatsafe approved online training package. You can do the course at home in one session and complete it in an evening, or break it up into smaller sessions over a few days. The training package automatically logs you back in to where you left off in your previous session. Its flexible and easy to use!
Next you book to do the practical part of your course. This can be completed in just a morning or afternoon. Our Online theory means you don’t spend your whole day sitting in a stuffy classroom, allowing us to put more time into practical on water training.
Practical courses are taken on the beautiful Maroochy River, just minutes from Maroochydore town center. We meet at the brand new Rivershore resort, which offers us an excellent training location.
Once you have completed your online theory course at home, at your own pace, it’s time to book your practical assessment. There are a Maximum of 5 people on any course (larger group bookings are available) offering you more personal and friendly experience, remember, we are here to help you become a safe boatie not judge you!
Your first step will be to take the Boatsafe online theory validation test, any questions which arise from that will be explained by your instructor. Then it is straight onto the boat or PWC!
Licence to Boat uses a purpose built 5.8m Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). ‘LTB One” is a very safe, comfortable and quiet boat on which to learn and it’s fun to drive too! Its no wonder that The Police, Lifesavers and The Navy all use RIB’s, they are very safe and practical boats.
The practical training goes like this:
We will give you a briefing of the vessel, safety, launch/retrieval tips and voyage planning.
Then you take the wheel under the guidance of our instructor and learn to handle it like a pro! You will learn how to bring the vessel alongside a jetty, pick up a mooring, conduct a person over board scenario and learn to manoeuvre the boat competently and confidently.
Then its onto the JetSki!
Our instructor will help you identify the different parts of a PWC, explain safety, manoeuvring and voyage planning, and then it is straight onto the water.
You take control and our instructor will guide you through the required elements until you are competent and confident.
Once competent we will issue you with two statements of competency, They must be presented to Transport and Main Roads Queensland (TMR) within 6 months, you then pay their fee to receive your licence.
It’s that easy!
What to Bring:
- Photo I.D.
- Sunscreen
- Swimmers and a towel
- Weather appropriate clothing.
- Drinking Water
Please note: The statement of competency is not a licence, it must be taken to TMR within 6 months to gain your licence.
